Below is a message from Rashan:
I’m excited to have joined the dYdX team to further the mission of democratizing access to financial opportunity by building powerful, transparent, and fair financial products.
I spent seven years in the United States Senate and on the campaign trail working for Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey. I performed a variety of roles, including leading his work on technology and telecommunications issues, helping cement his position as a leading legislator in the crypto space.
I’ve been obsessed with crypto since late 2016 when I read Nathaniel Popper’s book, Digital Gold, about the early days of Bitcoin. Since then, I’ve been deeply involved at a personal level, launching my own, albeit short-lived, crypto startup in 2018, and taking those learnings into my work on Capitol Hill. Senator Booker sits on the Senate Agriculture Committee, which oversees the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This position gave me the opportunity to work closely with leadership through the drafting of relevant legislation and important Congressional hearings on digital assets.
dYdX’s founder, Antonio Juliano, has a uniquely clear vision for the future of the protocol – and for all of crypto. He has assembled a world class team of operators and engineers that is poised to achieve outstanding results, and I’m happy to be a part of that.
This last year has not been easy for crypto, and we’re likely to see more rough times ahead before things improve. Fraud, volatility, hacks, and critical collapses have damaged crypto’s reputation in the court of public opinion. Negative incidents have created a dark image in the minds of some policymakers who are tasked with building out the future regulatory landscape of the industry.
Over the next few years, as Head of Policy at dYdX Trading, I’m dedicated to helping to shape the future of crypto regulation and legislation. I will listen attentively to the broad range of stakeholders who care about this challenging and fascinating space to develop the best policy solutions that balance innovation and customer protection. And I’ll tell the story of the revolutionary capability of DeFi to all who will hear.
